Hope your weeks are off to a great start! We had a very busy Monday. We started our End-of-the-Year Benchmark tests today. The boys and girls worked through their vocabulary and word analysis portions. They did a great job! We also started our MAP tests. When they came back we did a go noddle break! :)    This afternoon we started with some stamina building before going to PE and library. Then we took a break for snack. After snack we started Unit 12 in math. Today, our objectives were to distinguish between 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, measure the length, width, and height of a rectangular prism, and count cubic units to find volume. They did a wonderful job!   We ended the day with some handwriting practice in our handwriting books.    Reminders:   Concert Thursday!   No school Monday the 26th! Tuesday May 27th-Secret Pal Trip Friday May 30th-Track and Field Day

We had a great Monday morning today!   We flipped our day and did math first in the morning. We are starting Unit 10. Our objectives were to idenitfy figures that have the same shape and are the same size. We also are working to group 2-D figures using a sorting rule. They did a good job with this for day 1!   In reading this afternoon, the boys and girls are starting Lesson 29. We took a spelling pre-test. Our letter pattern this week is /a/ ea, and ei(gh), ey. We are learning about folktales for our weekly story. We read the book "The Lizard and the Sun," as a whole class. Then we got into our new Daily 5 centers. In science, we worked on investigation #3-The Pencil Challenge. We worked on balancing a pencil on its point, using clothespins to provide counter weight. We learned that the weight needed to be below the balance point to add stability to the system. The boys and girls explored different placements of the counter weight to find the position with the greatest stability.   Reminders: Spring concert is Thursday, May 22nd.  Secret Pal Trip: Tuesday, May 27th Track and Field Day: Friday, May 30th.

Happy Friday!   Today in language arts we reviewed the -all and -ought endings. We worked with helping verbs, identifying them in sentences and creating sentences of our own. Then we finished up our daily 5 centers!   We had a geologist come in today to talk to us about rocks. This tied into our theme story called, "Let's Go Rock Collecting." The boys and girls enjoyed learning about the rock cycle as well as seeing a variety of rocks.   We had indoor recess and then music. We then did a science experiment on stability. The boys and girls received an arch and a triangle. They taped a Popsicle stick to their desks, and tried to balance their objects on the stick. They then journaled about their findings.    We had computer, and then cashed in our turtle time!

It has been a great week! Yesterday I was gone for a track meet and I recieved a fabulous sub report! Way to go!   We are working on lesson 28 of language arts. We are focusing on the -ought and -all word endings. We are learning about helping verbs. In writing, we are practicing writing book reports. They are doing a great job with this!   In science, we started a unit on Balance and Motion. Today, the boys and girls got paper crayfish and experimented with balancing them on their fingers. We then learned the vocab stable, balance, and counter balance. The students received two clothespins and used those to help them balance the crayfish.    We ended the day with Computer and PE!   Homework tonight!

Happy May! We had a busy morning working on our language arts lesson 27 weekly tests. The boys and girls did a wonderful job with their robust words and comprehension questions this week! In math our daily objective was to solve 2-digit addition and subtraction problems, and explain the method the boys and girls used to solve them. They worked with a partner using white boards to practice their subtraction. We also watched a BrainPopJR movie, showing us what is happening when you regroup.  We took a brain break on a cool website called 'gonoodle.' The boys and girls had a blast getting their 'wiggles' out to fun songs!

We had a good day today! We started off with unfinished work at our seats. Then we did a spelling word activity before moving into our Lesson 27 work on the smartboard. We talked about antonyms and did an activity that helped us brainstorm many different antonyms we encounter. We then started new Daily 5 Centers! After indoor recess we did stamina building. We broke our record! We are now at 32 minutes. We did a math lesson where we were making smoothies, adding ingredients and coming up with how much we owed the smoothie maker. We ended the day with computer and PE! REMINDERS: PJ DAY this Friday, May 2nd!

Today we had a busy morning! We started by meeting on the carpet and sharing something we are excited about for the week. Then we did calendar followed by our daily math warmup. We are now incorporating our two and three digit subtraction into our routine! The boys and girls are doing great working on the two strategies we have learned. After our math warm-up, we got started on Language Arts. We grabbed our white boards and worked with irregular verbs. Then we did some spelling practice, coming up with different actions to do for each word we were spelling. We then settled into our robust vocabulary. The students have been doing a fabulous job using these big words in sentences and applying them to their everyday lives. They still love finding them in their books and earning a glitter ball! :) After our lesson, we finished up our Daily 5 centers from yesterday. The focus on the meet-with-teacher center was to introduce the components of a biography. After lunch we had PE and Music. Then we did a science lesson on seasons. We talked about characteristics of each of our 4 seasons. The then journaled about our learning.  We wrapped up our Tuesday with a math review lesson on subtraction. This time, we pretended we were shopping, buying different items and seeing how much money we had left over.  Great day!
