Happy Friday! Today we finished our Theme 1 language arts testing (unit 1). The comprehension section of this test is always a challenge for students every year. Aside from that, they did wonderful. After our testing we did a few short centers. Then we went to the computer lab to AR test. After lunch we had a math lesson on equation chains (i.e. 5=4+1=1+4=3+2=2+3). Then we did social studies where we reviewed landforms and learned about the compass rose. We located stated on a map using directions. We had computer, turtle time, and PE to end the day! Have a wonderful long weekend!

Today we had a wonderful morning. We did a language arts lesson followed by Theme 1 testing. They did well on most everything. We will continue to work on reading comprehension. :) After indoor recess (we watched Magic School Bus), we had PE followed by another reading test. Then we went to Music. After music we took a snack break/title 1. Then we did a math lesson. There we worked to add or subtract by counting on, using a number line. We ended the day with RTI/Unfinished work time. Reminders: Picture re-takes next Friday the 25th. Book orders due next Friday the 25th. No school this Thursday and Friday! Enjoy! :)

We had a great Friday! We started by our star student presenting her poster. Then we reviewed our language arts that we covered this week. We had fun friday game centers that the boys and girls had a blast with-painting word wall words, building words from yellow cubes, playing a direction following board game, playing charades with our word wall words, and doing a reader's theater play. After this we had a few minutes to read to self. After lunch we had music followed by a first grade class coming in to read with us (we were fill in reading buddies for the day). They were great leaders for this. We had social studies where we reviewed landforms. We also took an algebra quiz in math. Then we had computer, turtle time outside, and then played a game of silent ball! Have a fantastic weekend!!

Today we had a busy morning. We started with a quick review of our language arts. Then we took our weekly spelling test followed by our weekly language arts tests. After this we got into center work. During this time Grandma Marge pulled boys and girls to read to her. We had 10 minutes before lunch to finish unfinished work. After lunch we went right to music followed by a review social studies lesson. We are talking about land forms such as peninsulas, islands, and plains. Then we went to PE where we roller skated. We took a break for snack, followed by math. In math we were introduced to math mountain cards. These will help us add and subtract more quickly. We also solved mystery addition story problems. While I worked with a small group of kids the boys and girls did math stations to finish out our day. Reminders: Picture retakes are Friday, Oct 25

Today we started our day by taking a 2nd grade class picture on the playground to go with our school wide bullying movie. Then we came in and did our morning routine along with unfinished work for the first 10 minutes. After morning meeting we worked on language arts. We reviewed the vowels ee and ea. The boys and girls have been finding lots of these words in their free reading books-good to see! They also know if they find a robust word that they get a glitter ball :) We did a mini lesson on what to do when you come to a word you don't know. They learned about Chunky Monkey, Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, Tryin' Lion, Skippy Frog, and Flippy Dolphin (ask them what each animal does!) After centers we had lunch followed by roller skating in PE. Then we had music, snack, math and story!

In math we worked on make-a-ten story problems. We got a new set of flash cards to practice making tens. Then we had story and headed home! Silent reading in the star student chair during snack time

Happy Friday! Today we had a lot of fun. We had our star student sharing, followed by our daily math warm up. There we came up with story problems, and the boys and girls had to write the corresponding equation frame that would match (i.e. ___+5=10). Then we did a language arts review of what we learned this week. This included some fun smartboard games. Then it was time for Fun Friday Game centers. The boys and girls did a word building board game, learned how to play "Spot it," played "Headbands" with vocabulary, charades with vocabulary, as well as a read-to-self and read-to-teacher station. They had a blast! After lunch we went straight to music. Then we came back and did more review on matching story problems with equations. This helps prepare children for writing algebraic equations with an unknown. It also helps them to read problems carefully to understand the situation. They are doing great. We had computer as well as art in the classroom. Then we earned our turtle time ___minutes, and enjoyed that free choice time! Have a wonderful weekend!
