Welcome back after another long weekend! This morning we did a lot of our comprehension tests for the mid year benchmarks. The boys and girls did a great job focusing. We also took a Lesson 15 review spelling test. This lesson does not do a pre-test, but rather a test that combines words from all the lessons. We did Daily 5 centers, then did a little social studies. The boys and girls have been reading folktales and fables. They gave a short presentation on their favorite one, showing on a map where the folktale originated, and then telling us their favorite part. We had lunch followed by a review math lesson of show all totals, new groups above, and new groups below. We had computer and snack, then PE!

Today was a great day! In language arts we did our lesson 14 benchmark testing. Then we wrote a letter to our star student McKenna. After this we went to Mrs. Harden's room to listen to a presenter talk about health. This nurse told us about our bodies and how to keep our heart strong. We learned about what our plate should look like-1/4 protein, 1/4 whole grains, 1/4 vegetables, and 1/4 fruit. She showed us test tubes of fat for different foods. We learned that fish have about 1/8 of a test tube of trans fat in them, chicken 3/8's, and a cheese burger 3 full test tubes! We talked about how it is okay to eat any food, as long as in moderation. We came back and went to lunch and music. Then we did a math lesson on show all totals, when the totals are bigger then 100. We had a little bit of work time before we went to computer, followed by art. In art we made pencil monsters!! Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the 'warm' weather tonight! Working hard in class today :)

Today we had a very productive morning! We did some of our lesson 14 language testing as well as our mid year benchmark tests. We did our daily 5 centers, and were so focused and productive that we had time for a vocab game called "Boogey Monster." They had a blast playing this. After lunch we had music followed by another testing period before PE. We ended the day with Math centers, focusing on the addition methods of show all totals and new groups below. Have a great night! Working on a non-fiction writing piece A Math dice make-a-monster game during math centers

Today we started lesson 14 of language arts. We took a pre-spelling test. We learned new sight words and new robust vocabulary. We talked about pronouns, how they are words that replace nouns (she, he, they, we, etc). For center time, the boys and girls practiced their spelling words with fancy letters, wrote about what would happen if they joined the circus, listened to our lesson's story "Rainforest Babies," read to someone, and read to self. We had a little time for writing, so we talked about Martin Luther King Jr, and then wrote what our dream would be. We had indoor recess where we watched "Finding Nemo," or drew in our notebooks. Then we went to PE followed by a unit review of S.S before our test tomorrow. We had music, snack, and then math. In math we learned different methods for adding two digit numbers; Show All Totals, New Groups Below, and New Groups Above. We will continue to work on these! For math centers the boys and girls did the MATH rotations (M=manipulatives, A=a flashback, T=teacher time, and H=hands on). They played number battlesship, did some flashcards, played bump it, met with me on the new methods for addition, and also played MEGA MATH on the smartboard. We had a bit of a loud and squirrely afternoon, so we had a little chat before we headed home :) Have a nice night! Martin Luther Writing Mega Math-tens and ones game

Great short morning! We spent time getting caught up on unfinished work. Then we talked about the format for an opinion paper 1. State your opinion. 2. List your reasons. 3. End with a closure. They did a great job getting started on this writing. We played silent ball before lunch, then had indoor recess followed by dismissal. Enjoy your long weekends!

Had a good Thursday! Started off with working on unfinished work. Then we met for morning meeting and did calendar as well as a review math session. We reviewed estimation, rounding, and two digit addition. For center time we did a center on timelines/inventions. The boys and girls had to order a list of inventions by their dates, and glue to a piece of paper. Another center worked on -ed and -ing endings, as well as figuring out their base word (i.e-running=run, jogging=jog). A third worked on writing silly sentences using their robust words, and a forth was a simple addition exercise that tied in Martin Luther King JR. We went to lunch and music, then did our Daily 5 stamina building for 20 minutes before we headed to PE. After PE we took a break for snack (unfortunately it had to be a quiet snack since we were a bit noisy during centers), and then we did MAP testing over measurement. We wrapped up the day with some math and unfinished work, as well as RTI. Spelling words with letter tiles -ed and -ing endings--sorting Working on reading with meet-with-teacher

Today was a good day in our 2nd grade classroom. We started off by meeting on the rug and talking about what happened yesterday. I explained to the students that we had to leave the building because we needed to make sure it was safe for us. We were never in any danger, but its always good to be safe. Yes, someone did write a violent message in a bathroom, and even though it was probably a joke, we take things seriously (i then related this to even the pictures we draw in our notebooks). They did a wonderful job with the evacuation and I was very proud of them. We then did our language arts centers, followed by recess, a math lesson on odd/even numbers as well as estimation, and then computer. We ended the day with snack and PE. Math Centers

After lunch we did our handwriting journals before going to PE and then library. We enjoyed our snacks while finishing unfinished work. In math we talked about number lines and rounding to the nearest 10. Then we did math centers as well as RTI time. REMINDERS: Early out this Friday/No school Monday the 19th~
