It was a pretty good day! In reading we had to first take our spelling test from last week that we missed on Friday. Then, we learned our new sounds for this week. We are working on the /j/ sound with the spelling of -ge and -dge. We are also working on the /s/ sound with the spelling of ce. We read the story "What's in the Hedge?" and discussed beginning, middle, and end. For grammar this week we are working on words that have two meanings like the word bat. It can mean the animal or a baseball bat. Our specialists today were music and gym. For science today we checked out our milkweed bugs. We noticed that some of them have hatched into nymphs. Also, some of our eggs are orange and red. We also observed our plants. We checked to see if they had grown. If they had, we measured how tall they were. In math we learned a new way to add 2-digit problems. This method is called the new group above method. We all seemed to do a pretty good job with this new strategy. I was impressed! Our day ended with groups. In groups we had a choice. We either were word detectives or we did read to self from any book in our classroom library. I hope I see all of your smiling faces tomorrow!?
