It was a SUPER day!  In reading, we learned about the -oke family and the -ose family.  We had Daily 3.  We put our spelling words into a word search.  We started writing our poems today and we read with the teacher.  After recess we had science.  In science we made milkweed bug habitats.  Each one of us had a very important job to do in creating these habitats.  We needed to make sure that we were giving the eggs- air, water, space, and food!  After science we went to music and library.  We get a special surprise at the end of the day from Mrs. Staples for being so good! :) Math was working on adding two items together.  We pretended we were at a sidewalk sale and had to find the total of two items.  The main thing we learned today was remembering to circle a ten (DIME).  Our day ended with groups and journaling.  I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Today we started with unfinished work, and then got into our language arts lesson. We worked with past tense verbs and synonyms. We did some acting out of our robust vocabulary and then did centers.  We had lunch followed by another lesson on midpoints and shapes. We took our Unit 8 test before heading to computer. Unfortunately we earned 10 tallies, so snack got cancelled :( :( We went to PE, wrapped up our science journals, and headed home! REMINDERS: Book orders due next Tuesday the 8th!

Hi, it's Ms. Battaglia's class speaking!  In reading we had Daily 5.  For Daily 5 we reread the story "On Saturday" to someone. We found words on a friends word search at the word work center.  At the meet with the teacher center, we read a book and did a page out of our packet.   Also,  we continued working on our poems at the writing center.  At the read to self center we did a marvelous job reading books from our book bags.  We had library and computer today.  In computer class, we got to go to a website and look at animals.  For science we did a couple of things.  We looked at our plants.   Three groups plants had started to grow! The rest of us are patiently waiting for ours to sprout.  In our science journals we put the stages of a beetle's life in order.  We also labeled them.  Math was adding two digit numbers together.  We used sticks and circles to help us find our answers.  *Remember if there are more than ten circles you need to group them!  I hope I see you all tomorrow!

Our fellow 4th grade teacher Mrs. Hipp came into the 2nd grade rooms today to talk to us about Bee Keeping. Our theme for this unit was insects, and we read about bees, so this tied in perfectly! We learned alot and even got our very own bumblebee to look at and journal about tomorrow. We enjoyed music and PE before doing a review math lesson, RTI, and a read aloud of Junie B Jones. Reminders: Book orders!

Nymphs
It was a pretty good day!  In reading we had to first take our spelling test from last week that we missed on Friday.  Then, we learned our new sounds for this week.  We are working on the /j/ sound with the spelling of -ge and -dge.  We are also working on the /s/ sound with the spelling of ce.  We read the story "What's in the Hedge?" and discussed beginning, middle, and end.  For grammar this week we are working on words that have two meanings like the word bat.  It can mean the animal or a baseball bat.  Our specialists today were music and gym.  For science today we checked out our milkweed bugs.  We noticed that some of them have hatched into nymphs. Also, some of our eggs are orange and red.  We also observed our plants.  We checked to see if they had grown.  If they had, we measured how tall they were. In math we learned a new way to add 2-digit problems.  This method is called the new group above method.  We all seemed to do a pretty good job with this new strategy. I was impressed!  Our day ended with groups.  In groups we had a choice.  We either were word detectives or we did read to self from any book in our classroom library.  I hope I see all of your smiling faces tomorrow!?

We had a good Monday today! We started Lesson 24 for Language Arts. We took our spelling pre-test and did our new Daily 5 Centers. We ended the morning by examining our bumblebees we got last week, and journaling about this in our science journals.    This afternoon we had PE and Library followed by snack break. Then we did a math lesson on counting change. We broke off into math centers where we played a game on thinkcentral, worked on some math activities, and started an Easter craft project.    Fun day!

It was a great day back after our unexpected long weekend.  Due to the snow day, we took our Friday spelling test today and we will not be taking our spelling pre-test this week.  We started our day with our math centers.  We are getting SO GOOD at double digit adding!  This has by far been the most beneficial chapter to FLIP!  The kids are at all different levels of this new and challenging concept and it is so nice to meet all of their needs and challenge everyone!  :)  During science we checked on our plants, beetles, and milkweed bugs!  SO MUCH GROWTH AND CHANGE!!This afternoon we worked a lot on making rhymes!  It's very tricky for this age.  I hope you all enjoy the weather!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Today we had a productive day. We worked hard in our daily 5 centers on /ar/ words when spelled air and are. We also worked more with the BE verb.  As we worked through centers we continued to work on our Easter baskets. They are having a blast with these! We had recess, PE, and Music. Then we did a science lesson on a variety of different animals. In our science journals, we drew diagrams of some of the animals we learned about! We finished the day with a math lesson on counting money as well as working on our Easter baskets! Notes:  Secret Pal trip is May 27 Field Trip to WDIO/Children's museum June 4

It was a good and busy day!  For reading today we read the story "Mystery of the Night Song" with a partner.  We worked on finding two meanings for the words bump and wave.  We had to draw pictures of the two meanings and then write a sentence for one of the meanings.  We also worked on the contractions 's, n't, and 'll.  Science was quick today.  We took a look at our plants and drew a picture of what it looked like today in our science journals.  We also observed our nymphs.  I think all of them have hatched now!  We had time for a little bit of art too.  In art we painted three circles the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue!  Tomorrow we will be continuing this project.  Our day ended with math.  For math today we worked more on adding 2-digit numbers together.  The cool thing about today was that we got to choose which strategy we wanted to use to solve the problem.  It was neat to see which strategy everyone chose to use!  See all your super faces tomorrow!

Today was a testing day for us. We did our language arts comprehension tests and spelling tests. We worked through our Thursday Daily 5 Centers. We then had music. Because we got a bad report from Mrs. Staples, we had our snack cut in half. Then we had PE followed by a science lesson on plants and animals.  We worked more with math and counting money. Then we did some subtraction.
