Today was a great day!  We started out finishing up our writing about our Spring Break.  Collin shared his with the class.  Everyone did a wonderful job on this assignment, but his was above and beyond and you felt like you were really there when you read it.  After that, we had math centers.  It was so nice getting back into our centers and being so engaged in our math learning!  Money can be tricky, but it really helps having Cmart!  Then this afternoon we worked on rhyming and started a poem!  We also practiced more of our new sound and the new high frequency words.  We also read a story about Saturday.   Finally, in Science we got NEW INSECTS today.... MILKWEED BUGS!!   So now we have the mealworm beetles, plants, and milkweed bugs!  So many life cycles to observe!!!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Poems
Today was a pretty good day!  In reading we read the story "On Saturday" from our storytown book.  We were in a circle reading using the microphone.  Our reading improves everyday!  We practiced more with the -er and -est endings.  We also wrote a poem all together about horses.  We realized how hard it is to write a rhyming poem, but WE DID IT!  :)  For science today we wrote in our journals the steps we took to plant our seeds yesterday.  We also drew a picture of the steps.  This afternoon we had music and PE.  We got a compliment from Mrs. Staples on how well we did at listening and playing our instruments!  In math we worked on using coins again.  Today we showed an amount using different ways to make that amount.  Have a wonderful night!  See your happy faces tomorrow!

What a great day back....other than the weather.  We re-read the story In Like a Lion, and we all agreed that it is STILL like a LION out there!!  Hopefully it is over soon.  In math today we worked on money.  We drew pictures of dimes, nickels, and pennies and then we practiced counting them.  Science was SUPER exciting.  Not only did our mealworms turn into beetles, but we planted seeds!  So many life cycles going on in our classroom.  Ask me about the song "Head, Thorax, Abdomen"!  This afternoon we worked on the o_e sound.  It's SO easy for us since it's the same rule as the a_e and I_e.  Finally, we ended our day writing about our spring break adventures.  WOW!  Some of us had QUITE A BLAST!  I can't wait to see you tomorrow.

Welcome back!  It feels good to be back at school.  It was a nice, but rainy day.  This morning we wrote in our journals about what we did over spring break.  For reading today, we worked on the long o sound with the spelling pattern o_e.  We took our spelling pre-test,  read a story called "Hang on, Rose!", and talked about writing a poem.  Sometimes poems rhyme but they don't have to.  We had music and PE today.  In science today we checked our cups to see how many beetles we had.  Every single person had at least one beetle.  We drew an adult beetle in our journals and labeled it.  Did you know that beetles have three parts:  head, thorax, abdomen.   The last thing we did for science today was planting two brassica seeds into a cup. We will have to check them tomorrow to see if any are growing yet. Math was working more with dimes, nickels, and pennies.  We do a nice job showing a certain amount with these coins.  We need to remember with our new strategy that if we circle five pennies it is traded in for one nickel. Our day ended with us sharing about our spring breaks!  See you all tomorrow!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing spring break. Today we got into the swing of things by having a little sharing time to talk about what we did last week. Then we took a spelling pretest before getting into lesson 23 (packets went home today). We did Daily 5 Centers and played "What's on my back" before heading to recess.   After recess we did Science. We started our animal unit.   We had PE and library then a break for snack.    In math, we started talking about quadrilaterals. We defined them and compared them to other shapes.    We ended the day with unfinished and RTI. Reminders: Newspaper in 1 inch strips (or if you don't have time at home, bring in the newspaper and the students can cut in their free time :)  )

It was a really fun day today!  For reading we had daily 5.  At the word work center, we finished writing our spelling words and stamping them out.  At the writing center, we finished writing about a memory we had.  We did read to self, listening to reading, and we met with the teacher and read too.  We had library and computer today.  In computer,  we wrote about spring things and watched a video about spring.  Art today was being the illustrator to a page of a book.  Ms. Battaglia read a page of a book to us.  We didn't get to see the picture because we had to be the illustrator of what we heard her read.  In that illustration- Ms. Battaglia will be looking for three very specific things.  In math we took a practice test.  We did it with a partner.  I hope we are ready for the real test tomorrow!  I hope to see your hardworking faces tomorrow!  Don't forget to wear your Bully-Free T-Shirts tomorrow!!!!

All I want to start out with is how much I have enjoyed the FLIPPED CLASSROOM!  I never expected that we would FLIP all year long, but we have and we are going to continue to the end.  Math has been taken to the next level in our class and we have so much fun every single day!  Today was had a blast singing songs, playing games, and doing our five minute drill.  Who knew learning could be so much fun.  We continue to observe our mealworms and watch for changes!  It's amazing the transformations!  This afternoon Lindsey read her story!  It was about a fox that had cold feet.  Ask your child what happened.  We are spoiled this week with only five new high frequency words, but we are still working hard at them.  Finally, we ended our day working on the Daily Five.  Our writing this week is describing a memory.  I can't wait to read them!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.
