We had a great day!  This morning we had centers again.  They were a lot like yesterday!  We are doing great with fractions!  It's amazing how fast they learn.  Then we looked at our mealworms some more.  It is so fun listening to everyone giggle when they are observing their mealworm.  We also read about animals and plants in different habitats today.  This afternoon was a lot of fun!  We read a play about a hamster.  The expression I heard when they were reading the play was unbelievable!  The kids picked with the best expression were Max, Nolan, and Layla!  We also had a great time saying CHEESE today as well!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.

It was a good day!  In reading today we had Daily 5.  At the word work center, we did rainbow roll-n-write with our spelling words.  The color that we had to write the word depended on what number we rolled on the dice. At the writing center, we worked as a group on writing a play.  We had library and computer today.  In science we observed our mealworms and pupae.  Some of us noticed that our cup had more pupae than it did before.  One group still has all mealworms.  We got to tape a real molt into our science journals.  How COOL!  For math,  we used circle graphs to answer questions.  This seemed to be much easier than yesterday's graphs using money.  Our day ended with writing thank you letters to all the amazing actors and actresses who were in the Junie B. Jones play.  I will be gone tomorrow.  I am hoping for an amazing report- just like yesterday afternoon!  Have a wonderful weekend.  Do something fun! See you back here on Monday!

Today was a great day!  We started with observing our mealworms and writing in our science journals about them.  They are changing so much!  After that, we had math!  At one center we were keeping tally of what we spin.  At another center, we took tally on colors of cubes in a bag.  At the second center we worked on our doubles facts and fractions.  With Miss C. we took a quick quiz and worked on circle graphs.  Math went into the afternoon today.  For language arts we read another story about trolls that wanted to ruin a Christmas Eve.  We had to solve the problem.  Then, we worked on our writing and grammar.  We are working on using numbers in our writing.  Then Miss C. asked us what we need to improve on.  It was amazing how much some of us want to learn.  We talked about how we will never stop learning.  Then we ended our day working hard on writing, spelling words, and reading in the daily 5!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.

Hope your Monday's are off to a great start!   We began today with our Lesson 21 spelling pre-test. This week we will be working with the or sound, when spelled 'or' and 'ou.' We did a few practice exercises with this before doing some review smartboard work.    We got into new Daily 5 centers. One of the centers gives the students the chance to make a short book about the life of one of their classmates (tying in with our biography unit from a few lessons back). They are having fun with this.   We had lunch followed by science. We journaled in our notebooks about different types of plants found in a woodland and prairie environment.    We had PE and library. Then we did a math lesson on graphing before taking a break for snack. We ended the day with RTI.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Today was a fun day in first grade!  This morning we did our regular routine.  In reading we were introduced to all the new concepts for the week.  Our sound this week is the long i sound.  We are practicing that sound with the i_e spelling pattern.  For grammar, we are working on using describing words that show feelings. For writing, we will all be writing about a memory we have had.  Ask your child what memory he/she will write about during Daily 5 this week.  He/she should already know since we made an idea web about it today! We had music this morning and PE this afternoon.  When we got back to our classroom from PE,  we realized we had a visitor.  We don't know who it was but we are assuming a leprechaun stopped by while we were away and left us some treats at our desks.  We sure are LUCKY!  With it being St. Patrick's Day, we graphed a cup full of lucky charms and made a leprechaun puppet.  They all turned out adorable!  Our day ended with math.  In math today we worked more on telling time to the half hour.  We focused a lot on saying this time two different ways.  For example, it can be 2:30 or half past 2.  Have a great night!  See all your smiling faces back here tomorrow. :)

Clocks
Today was a good day!  We had reading this morning.   We read the story "We're Going on a Picnic".  In this story the problem was that some animals were eating the food out of their basket without them knowing. Their solution was to pick more food for their picnic. Another thing that we did during reading time was practiced spelling a bunch of i_e words on our whiteboards. After reading we had science.  In science, we drew in our science journals.  We drew what our pupa would look like up close under a magnifying glass and we drew our mealworms habitat.  We had music and PE this afternoon.  In math, we played a CUCKOO clock game. Then, we worked on making a circle graph and a picture graph.  We also made a schedule of our day today.  Math time ended with us working on telling time at our tables.  We ended our day with groups.  We all had to read a story and find out what the problem and solution were in the story we chose.  See you all tomorrow!

Busy Tuesday for us. We spent the first part of our morning doing unfinished work before moving into sharing and calendar. Then we did a lesson on /or/, spelled ou and or. We practiced our spelling words and then read our week's story together as a class.   We wrapped up daily 5 centers and had time for silent ball before lunch!   We went to PE, did a plant lesson in science, then had music class. We took a break for snack, then started wrapping up our math graphing lesson.    We ended the day with RTI!

We started our day out working on math centers in time and fractions.  This is a tough chapter, but we are working hard and I'm definitely seeing improvements!  After that, we observed our mealworms.  Some have died and some have changed into BEETLES!!! It has been a lot of fun looking at these mealworms and watching them change!  This afternoon we did an activity where Miss C. read a part of a story and we had to illustrate it.  Then we created a web of a memory we have.  At the end of the day we played this new blanket game!   Ask your child about it!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!   DRIVE SAFE!

Today we started off by cheering on the girls state basketball qualifiers as they ran through the hallways. Good luck Esko! We met for calendar and sharing. Then we worked through our smartboard lessons before getting into all new centers. There, we enjoyed doing some D.O.L, correcting sentences that Junie B Jones wrote incorrectly. We also got to play a review math battleship game. We had lunch followed by math. We finished wrapping up our graphing unit, hoping to test tomorrow or Friday.  We had computer, snack, PE, and home! Reminders: Bully free tee-shirt day is this friday! Newspaper for our craft after spring break please!!

March 19th, 2014.  For Daily 4 today we had the word work center, the writing center, the meet with the teacher center, and the decodable reader center.  In word work, we worked on writing our spelling words and stamping them!  At the writing center,  we started writing about a memory we have had in our life.  Science today was observing our mealworms or pupae.  In our science journals we made a prediction for what our pupae will turn into.  I bet some of you are correct!  We had music and library this afternoon.  In math,  we worked on the days of the week,  the months of the year, and the four seasons.  We looked at a calendar and answered a bunch of questions about it!  Our day ended with groups and us being i_e word detectives!  I'll see your smiling faces tomorrow- I hope!
