Today was probably my most favorite day this year, so far.  It was so much fun watching the kids share their superhero with the class!  Some kids really showed their creative side, but overall I was impressed by how much they have learned about their special friend.  Everyone had a HUGE smile on their face today because of this simple little activity.  I loved every minute of it.  Then we talked about a superhero that was only in first grade, Ruby Bridges.  I read a story that explained what she went through and the upset people she had to face.  At the end of the story, some of the kids needed a moment to take it all in.  I actually thought a few were going to tear up after hearing what this little girl had to endure.  It really touched them.  This afternoon we worked more on our sounds and high frequency words.  We also did an activity that was about cause and effect.  Miss C. put some silly pictures on the smartboard, for example a guy with a really bad sunburn, and we had to talk about what caused it.  It was a lot of fun and we got a lot of laughs out of it.  At the end of our day, we ended with the daily 5.  We are writing more about our beanie babies.  They are turning out AMAZING.  We also created a word search with our spelling words.  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.

Today we had daily five.  In daily five, we worked on finding our spelling words on a friend's word search.  We also worked on describing things at the writing center.  It is fun to see us working so independently during daily five.  We had library today and computer.  After computer we finished our theme 4 reading test.  In math we learned about lots of new shapes.  Some of the shapes we learned about were:  cube, cone, rectangular prism,  sphere,  and cylinder.  We did a fun sorting rule sheet to figure out which shapes fit the rule and which ones didn't.  We wrapped up our day with groups and reading our decodable reader.  Remember tomorrow is Olympic Day and PJ day!  Go CANADA!!

Today we started off by going to the cafeteria and celebrating the conclusion of "I love to Read" month. The surprise party was revealed...a movie in the theater! So tomorrow will consist of Olympic day in the morning, and movie in the afternoon! :) We did our lesson 19 testing followed by centers. Had lunch, music, and PE. We did a math lesson, again on clocks, and then made 'Belgium' flags for our Olympics tomorrow. Note: If you can start collecting newspapers (not the glossy ads), we will be needing a ton of these for our Easter baskets. They need to be cut in one inch strips (like the holiday wreaths we made). Bring them in as you get them, or all at once is okay too. THANKS!

We had such a fun day today.  We started with our assembly to end I Love to Read month where Stella won a prize and we all found out the surprise for tomorrow....a MOVIE in the theater!  Then, when we got back for math, we took our first 5 minute addition challenge!  There are 100 addition problems and we try and see how many we can get in 5 minutes!  The kids did great!  After that, we finished our theme test.  This afternoon was a blast.  We learned about contractions with have and are.  I've, You've, We're, They're.....the list goes on.  At snack, we celebrated Nolan's 7th birthday with SUPER 7 SUNDAES!  It was a lot of fun and delicious!  Finally, we ended our day with the Daily 5!  I can't wait to see everyone for an exciting day tomorrow!

What a great day!  Our entire morning was dedicated to the OLYMPICS!!  We had so much fun pushing each other in 'bobsleds' and down the 'luge'.  Some kids were really nervous, but when they got out there, they had so much fun.  A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Vesel-Jonson and CJ for all of their hard work.  This afternoon, we had our surprise movie in the theater.  We watched "Super Buddies" with all of the first and second graders!  The puppies were so cute.  Finally, we took our spelling test, which you won't get back until MONDAY since we didn't have time to take it until the end of the day.  Then we ended with Cmart!  I can't wait to see you all on MONDAY!

Today we had a nice day!  In reading we learned about our sound for the week.  We are working on the long a sound with spelling it either -ai or -ay.   We partner read the story "Kids Play!".  That story was about kids playing all over the world.  For grammar and writing this week, we are focusing on using our five senses:  see, feel, taste, hear, and smell.  In music we learned about Gustav the mole.  After recess we had PE.  Once we were back from PE we had science.  We talked about insects and what is means to observe something.  We also got our science journals all ready for when our mealworms arrive.  We are all pretty excited to see these insects!  We hope they come tomorrow!  Math today was working on doubles.  A double fact is when you add the same number together!  Our day ended with seeing who could be the best detective.  We searched books that we have read for -ai and -ay words.  The person with the most words got a special prize!  See you tomorrow, have a super night!

We started talking about plants. Then we did an experiment with celery. We stuck it in a jar and are going to monitor what happens to it over the next few days. We finished the day with a math lesson on time and calendars, had RTI, and home!

We had a great Monday back!  The kids and I started the day with learning about doubling a number!  We are going to be practicing our doubles A LOT this week!  Tomorrow in  centers they are going to make their own flash cards to practice.  Then, we went into art.  Today for art, we made a lion and a lamb.  It was a fun activity that went with a book.  If you are not aware, March is the month that is known to come in like a 'lion' and leave like a 'lamb.  Your child can explain this to you more.  This afternoon we had a blast reading Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss.  To celebrate his birthday, we are going to have Wacky Wednesday this Wednesday!  Be creative with this!  We also learned about our new sound -ai- and -ay.  The reading in this class is amazing!  I LOVE EVERY MINUTE!  Then, we ended our day with eating a Hershey kiss and writing about it.  It sounds really simple but it took a long time to eat that Hershey kiss since Miss C. had us describe EVERYTHING about it.  It was a lot of fun!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

This was a very exciting day because we finally got to go outside for recess.  It was a blast.  Don't forget to be sending all of their winter clothing.  We started our day with math centers.  One of the favorite centers was the pizza game.  In this center we worked with fractions.  It was a lot of fun.  We also made flash cards for our doubles facts.  We are going to have those memorized in no time.  Tonight's movie is a youtube video that you have to watch three times.  After math, we started a new unit in science.  We are going to be working with mealworms.  Today we got our journal all ready for it.  I'm excited for what's to come.  (A lot of creepy crawlers.)  Then, after lunch we reviewed the ay and ai sound, then learned about our new high frequency words.  They are really COOL!  At the end of the day, Officer Steve was here to listen to our expression.  He was amazed by our reading.  Finally, we ended with writing as a clas about the Edge.  What a great day.   I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!  DON'T FORGET, TOMORROW IS WACKY WEDNESDAY!!!
