Today was a pretty productive Monday. We learned a new sight word; up. We also learned the robust words tidy and meander (to wander around with no special place to go). For station work we wrote about "I go up to..." We worked on beginning sounds, which is easy for most everyone now, and did a 'write the room.' In math we reviewed the descriptive words more and fewer. We did a worksheet on them, then played a smartboard game. We had time for a few songs, a few stories, snack (crackers and cheese..yum!) and home!

In intervention today we worked on our new letter X. We sorted pictures into piles of 'ending in x,' and 'no x.' We reviewed addition and subtraction and played a game to go along with both on Mega Math. For station work we did a sentence writing of "Where is the..." We did a beginning sounds activity, as well as a review of the -at and -op word families. In math we learned about cordinal numbers. We did an activity where students had to listen to my direction, then color their picture according to if the person was first, next, last, forth, ect. We had time for a St. Patricks day craft of making a lepercon that involved writing and "I feel lucky when..."

Today we learned about the letter X and the sounds it makes. We practiced writing the uppercase and lowercase forms of it. We also brainstormed as many words that we could think of that start with X. We did a mini lesson on letter writing, and talking about how Lincoln used to put letters in his pipe hat. The boys and girls worked on their own letters during station time. They also read individually with Mrs. Debbie and worked on writing with me. We filled our brownie tray so we watched part of the "Velveteen Rabbit." We enjoyed a tasty snack of popcorn and then headed home!

Today we had a busy busy day. We had station work with the letter Z, beginning sounds, writing, and a craft where the students made themselves how they think they'll look when their 100 years old (something from the 100th day of school we've been meaning to do :) ). Along with that the boys and girls were pulled to read with Mrs. Debbie, work on spelling with me, and do a time capsule writing assignment with Mrs. McLeod. Busy!! But they handled it well. We are working on Saint Patrick's Day activites now. I have sent home a clover for you to decorate with your child about things you are lucky for. You can use real pictures or just draw pictures. You can write on it, or type and print out your writing. You can use glitter, or just markers. Make it how you want! We are going to hang them up on our bulletin board to enjoy and remember all that we are lucky for! :) The boys and girls have again filled their brownie tray so tomorrow I will bring in a special snack and we'll watch a 20-30 minute movie! Fun!

Today was a good Monday! We had our intervention time where we reviewed. Then we learned the new letter Ww. We worked on the proper way to make it, and talked about the sound it makes. We made a worm to go along with the letter! During stations we worked more with W. To help us with our spacing, I introduced 'space guys' and 'space girls.' We use this while we are writing to make sure we leave a space! Space Men In math we learned about estimating and how that means you make an educated guess--you take what you know and guess from that information. We did a practice page of this, reviewed what partners are, and then had snack. Students who finished early played the math coin guessing game Good day!

Today we started by working at our table spots with unfinished work, then gathering and doing our Daily 5 to work on our stamina. After calendar we revisted our new sight word two. We also reviewed the word What. We learned about the -ot word family, and boys and girls had to place a word into the house if it belonged to that family (pot, hot, got, etc). They did really well with this. Girls playing "Bump" math game.    After our station time we gathered and did a little science. We are just starting to get more into our science curriculum. We talked about germs and how to keep ourselves clean. Some students from St. Scholastica came in with glow germs on their hands. They high fived and shook students hands, then brought out a black light to show how many 'germs' were left on their hands. We went to the bathroom and washed, then checked out our clean hands under the black light--much better! The college students also gave a demenstration of what happens when you sneeze. They blew powered sugar all over someones shirt, and explained that you have to sneeze into your elbow so you dont spread germs everywhere/on your hand! It was a fun science lesson.   We've pushed so hard this week and gotten so much done, that I felt the boys and girls deserved some choice time. They spent 15 minutes playing before snack, story, and home!   **Tomorrow is dress your best day. We will not go outside for fun friday, as everyone will be in their nice clothes.

Today we did a quick review math lesson of 'fewer' and 'more.' The boys and girls had to decide which picture showed more, then which picture showed fewer. This seemed pretty easy for everyone! Then we went to the ending assembly for "I love to read month." The boys and girls got to dance to the song us teachers danced to to kick off the month. A few children got prices for meeting their reading goals. Next we did our Language Arts. We learned the new sight word two. We talked about the difference between this two, and the other to. We worked through some stations involving coins, the sight word two/what, and a writing acitivty. After the boys and girls were done they could choose one of our reading games to play. Swat it! Sight word game Sight word toss and record game ht in special from a boy, and then headed home! **I have been doing a better job rewarding the students who bring back their hw. Keep up the good work! **I'm hoping we can go outside one of these days, so make sure you are dressing warmly! **Spring Pictures are Wed, March 13 **Spring Break is March 25-29

Today we had a jammed backed day! We started with our Daily 5 reading and buildt our stamina up to 4 minutes!! It was so nice to hear the children complain that we were STOPPING! They wanted to keep going :) In language arts we learned the song "The More We Get Together," and listened to it sung to us on the computer. Then we went through the poem and highlighted words we knew.  We then learned the robust word "versatile," (Imagine our vocabulary after this year!! :) ) with the definition being 'something you can use for more then one thing.' Examples were paper clips, a piece of string, a pointer. After this we did a review sight word game on the smartboard before getting into station work. Bump! game During stations we worked on the book, "What Can Two Do?" We learned a new game called "Bump!" that works with adding. The kids seemed to really enjoy it! In math we worked on probability of tossing a penny and it landing heads or tails. We watched two quick videos on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We made a list of things we learned about them. Then we put information onto a graph so we could see the attributes of each President. Graphing facts about two presidents

The boys and girls are now in the routine of coming in and working at their seats for the first 10 minutes, finishing unfinished work or coloring/drawing/writing. We did this, then gathered on the carpet for calendar.  During intervention time we reviewed the sight words see and where. Then we learned the new sight word what. We practiced spelling it along with actions.  During station time we read the book "What Will Dad See?" We practiced number recognition, and did a sight word game. We then had a brief intro lesson on President Washington and President Lincoln. We compared our names with theirs. Are they longer, shorter, or the same? For math, we played a game where the students decided how many pennies they wanted. Then they told their partner the total number they were starting with. The partner closed their eyes, and partner 2 covered up some pennies. Partner 1 opened their eye and had to figure out how many were hidding under the cup. They loved this game! It was great addition and subtraction practice. We finished with a cracker snack, a story, and then the bus!

Today we had a good Fun Friday! We didn't have intervention time so we did our calendar and then joined the other 3 sections of KG to practice the national anthem. I think were ready for tonight!! (6:45 drop off your child in my room. We'll see you down at the gym! :) ) After our practice we did our language arts. The boys and girls played a smartboard game where they had to drag a picture into a warp zone depending on if it started with an l or a h. Then we read a book together. A few kids got to 'play teacher' and point to each word as we read it. We did a group math lesson where the boys and girls cut out teen number flash cards. Then I said a number and they had to hold up the equation that matched that answer (ie "12" ..."10+2). Then I switched and said the equation and they held up the answer. They did wonderful, so the cards came home with them today. We had a birthday snack--donuts!! Then had choice time. Its fun seeing how much learning goes on during play as well. Helping the class read a book Teen Number Equation Work We wrote a thank you to PIE for the books they gave each of us--We put this picture in the card!
